Each facet of

was designed to bring visitors a joyful experience behind every digital door that leads to each new section of the site.

We are grateful to have had the opportunity to partner with multi-disciplinary, independently owned design studio

to bring this vision to life. Leading the project was Pentagram’s sound and experiential design visionary

, who we previously collaborated with on the

back in 2016 for that year’s Moogfest.

With a passion for Moog synthesizers and the brand's legacy, Yuri was the perfect partner to celebrate the Model D's cultural impact. He and the hardworking teams at Pentagram and Counterpoint helped create an experience that allows visitors all over the world to discover the deep history and sound of the Moog world.

“Working on this web project for the past two years has been an incredible journey, as Moog has always been my top fascination. Their synthesizers' special sound and beautiful design hold a special place in my heart. I still vividly remember our first discussion years ago where we envisioned a web experience that celebrates the Minimoog Model D. Our goal was to craft a tightly interactive and fun experience that would capture the essence of Dr. Bob Moog and his team’s groundbreaking innovation.

Throughout the project, the collaboration has been tight-knit and extremely enjoyable. We have exchanged numerous ideas on how to make the introduction of this beautiful innovation both fun and captivating. I am grateful to everyone involved in this project for their hard work and dedication.

I invite you to visit the website and immerse yourself in the discovery of the Minimoog Model D—a true testament to the innovation and creativity of its creators.”

It’s tough to say ‘No’ to Frank Zappa. So when conservatory-schooled pianist George Duke fell into his circle in the early 70’s he persistently nudged his new keyboard player to go electronic. After Duke said no to an Arp 2600, a Minimoog appeared on top of his Fender Rhodes.

“He got a Minimoog for me and said ‘This is a little smaller and maybe you'll bump it and a sound will come out and you'll like it.’

He did, but because of the intricacies that Zappa built into his music, Duke would have to graffiti his Model D with loads of visual cues in order to make sure that he didn’t miss a patch change.

“There were all these little white lines, and if I didn't make those those patches, Frank would be pissed! It was like choreography.”

Once he went solo, Duke found a fair amount of success following the release of his “Reach For It” album in 1977. Duke’s new sound embraced the dance floor, and he suddenly expanded the range of his audience. The following year’s “Don’t Let It Go,” contained the single “Dukey Stick,” a Top 5 hit on the U.S. R&B charts that borrowed from heavily from the Bootsy Collins school of funk. Central to that vibe was Duke’s love of the Model D, which he felt had a thicker sound than the other monophonic synthesizers he had played.

“The oscillator sounded fatter on (the Model D). It's just a fatter different kind of oscillator. Whatever it was that those that Bob Moog did…it just had a fatter sound.”
